“Yeh hai Mumbai. Yahan time ka matlab hai paisa. Mujhe Tees Minute ki journey teen minute me puri karni hai”
This is Mumbai. Time is Money here. I want to reduce my thirty minutes journey to three minutes.
Said Jai Mittal in the movieTaxi No 9211.
Well, it’s now a reality in Mumbai. The 60 minutes drive time is reduced to a quick and cool 7 minutes over the 5.6 km Sea Link which connects Bandra and Worli, over the sea.
To save the travel time of suburban commuters, it took a cool Rs. 1600 crore ($ 400 Million approx) of booty and 10 engineering years.
Only half (4 lanes) the width of the bridge is open, the other half would be completed soon. Presently the 4 lane link is temporarily divided into 2 x2 for up and down traffic.
I have uploaded a video of a to and fro drive over the much awaited Bandra -Worli Sea Link on Saturday, 25 July 09. Though the date 25 July has not exactly been very good for Mumbai, in the last few years, but this particular Saturday was very pleasant. It was partly sunny afternoon, no rains at all. The traffic was negligible few and the drive, super smooth. I have added the music of Bappi Lahiri ( Taxi No 9211) and Vishal Bharadwaj ( Kaaminey) for that unique Mumbai Flavour.
Enjoy and do leave a comment !
Check the video and find out how cool is the bridge
Btw, wiki says- The bridge weighs 670,000 tons, which is equivalent to 50,000 African elephants. I wonder how many ~uhs~ is that

HOW is how you enjoy the bliss of a Sepia Matinee.
